Dussehra or Vijayadashami is an annual festival celebrated by Indians across the country on the 10th day of the Hindu month of Ashvina. The day falls after Navratri, the nine days festival celebrated to honour the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga.
Vijayadashami marks the victory of Lord Ram over the evil King Ravana. On this day, effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakaran and his son Meghnad are burnt to signify the triumph of good over evil. It also honours Goddess Durga's battle against Mahishasura.
Processions, pandal hopping, fairs and family gathering are common during Dussehra. This year due to COVID-19, Vijayadashami might not have the same spark as before. For the public's safety, restrictions have been imposed on public gathering and processions. But this should not dim the sparkle of the day. You might not be able to meet your friend any friend, but can send them a warm message on this day and wish them luck and prosperity. Here are some wishes, messages and quotes to share with your family and friends.
